COBRA Magazine Picks Nine HBCU Volleyball Players for All-National Team

Nine HBCU volleyball players were chosen to COBRA Magazine’s All-National Team for 2010. Three players – Alabama A&M’s Karensa Beckford, South Carolina State’s Jarne Gleason, and Kentucky State’s Brittany Gleason – were Third Team choices while six more - Howard’s Tosin Elbute, Jackson State’s Paige Williams, Prairie View’s Sharonda Marshall, and the Maryland-Eastern Shore trio of Samantha Chukwura, Maline Vaitai and Zoe Bowens – were Honorable Mention selections.

Stewart, a 5-7 junior setter, led the SIAC in assists as Kentucky State won the league title and qualified for its first-ever NCAA Division II Tournament. This is the second consecutive year she has been named to the All-COBRA third team.

Gleaton, a 5-10 senior outside hitter, led the MEAC in kills as South Carolina State won the conference championship and made the Division I Tournament for the first time.

Beckford, a 5-10 junior right sider, won top player honors in the SWAC for the second time as Alabama A&M won the league title and advanced to the NCAA Tournament for the fourth consecutive season.
